Random Check in

  1. The Boy just told his Grandpa that he has 3 more weeks of school and then he’s off for 2 weeks.  This gave me heart palpitations. Not because of Christmas, but because of work.  That means year-end is in 3 weeks.  I have so much to do.
  2. Gordon is growing up so fast.  We took her for her last booster shot last night and she weighed in at a whopping 2.8kg or 6lbs 2oz. What happened to our little 2.5lb baby?
  3. Yes, we are those pet owners.  She is our child – without a doubt or apology.
  4. We’re still a 1 car family. For the most part it’s fine, except when it’s not.  Both the Boy and I go back and forth between being fine with it and needing a second car TODAY.
  5. The Boy has finished his first Long-Term-Occassional position.  It was great having a consistent morning routine, it sucks walking to the gym at 6:30am. See #4.
  6. The gym is still going well – it must be I’m walking there for goodness sake!  I haven’t remeasured yet, but I did put on my skinny jeans this week with minimal dancing and no need to lie down to do them up.
  7. Everyone does that right?
  8. The Boy is currently watching the Chinese News on OMNI1.  He says he’s trying to learn the language.
  9. The Boy and I went curling with Sista and the Physicist. The Boy said I should wear my bike helmet.  For the record I did not fall on my head once.  I did return with some bruises though.  Mainly from when I fell… on my hip… on my first rock.  It all made me feel very Canadian
  10. We decided not to go away over Christmas. Instead we’re painting our house and have made the definitive plan to go somewhere far in the summer.  I say Europe – anywhere in Europe.  The Boy says he likes the idea of the East Coast – Cabot Trail area. It is a beautiful area. But does anyone have suggestions for a “first trip to Europe” tour?

A Random List of Stuff I’ve Been Up To

Hello bloggy world!

Turns out I don’t really have time to post the beautiful and detailed posts that I’d love to about everything we’ve been up to lately. So here we go in no particular order:

  • I went centrepiece shopping with a friend of my mom’s this week.  We went straight to the flower warehouse source.  It was cold. It was slightly overwhelming.  But mostly it was incredibly frustrating to see the ridiculous mark-up on glass containers, flowers and floral accessories.  I know the mark up also includes labour but seriously – $5.00 for a vase that would probably sell anywhere from $20 – $25 is craziness.
  • I keep waiting for the Boy to realize that we are getting married in 3 weeks.  He has this anxiety issue where he does not anticipate change terribly well – sleepless nights, shortish fuse, sheer panic.  So far, nothin’. So far only rolling eyes when I ask him something with slight panic a normal 3 weeks away sense of urgency to my tone. Next week his “busy schedule” includes 2 golf games and 2 baseball games followed by a baseball tournament all weekend.  Do I sound jealous or bitter? I don’t mean to I am simply anticipating when I can check off “Calm Boy down when he has w-day meltdown.”  If he could hurry up and get it over with we could all move on.
  • Yesterday I woke up and went into the kitchen to find the garbage can tipped over and garbage all over the floor. At first I thought raccoons. Then I thought – that’s crazy the Boy must have just tripped over it in his half asleep state this morning.  Turns out I was right the first time.  Our landlord is coming over this weekend to fix the screen. Can you imagine waking up to a raccoon in your house? Bah.
  • I thought we had all of our important songs picked (first dance, last dance etc. etc.) but then this weekend as we were driving home from London the Boy says “I like this song as a first dance.”  What? You couldn’t have told me this 3 months ago when I asked your opinion on this?  Now I’m trying to figure out how to get all the songs we love into the day.  And trying to focus on appreciating his interest and opinion rather than the checked off things on my to do list unchecking themselves.
  • We finally met with our priest this week to confirm all that we had to confirm and get a few questions answered.  Highlights included:
  1. His congratulations to the Boy for “robbing the cradle” when we told him our ages (we’re only 11 months apart).
  2. Him asking me to fill out the online form myself since it would just be easier that way, and when the form went all screwy saying, “this is what you get when you ask a woman to do a man’s job” (He’s lucky I love him!)
  3. The football that the Boy was able to futz with in his office
  4. His enthusiasm when we showed him we hadn’t picked 1 Corinthians as one of our readings
  5. His advice on a non-Catholic friendly wedding program: “you can write anything you want in the program but no one’s going to read it – and I just make this shit up as we go along”
  6. His Spiderman t-shirt
  • I stopped by Mary’s Yarns the other day to pick something up quickly only to find they had just received their fall shipment.  I restrained myself. But I think to fight the post-wedding blues I am going to have to take myself on a date there and stock up.  SOOO MANY THINGS! Cowl anyone? I think Lynn would definitely support that plan of therapy. Seriously, if you’re a knitter and can get yourself to Unionville – go. You won’t regret it.  And if you’re not a knitter (you should start BTW), visit anyway – there’s a reliable rumour that John Stamos is in town, so there’s that if nothing else.

That’s it. That’s all I know. Well, that and the fifty other things that are rattling around my brain. But these are the most coherent ones – which should be an indication of how the others look.

Happy weekend!

22 more days!

Randomness

I was going to do a YouTube Friday.  But I’ve been slacking in the blogging department so I thought I should blog.  But as I started and stopped a few different topics I realized I don’t have the patience to write a full blog post about anything – I need to stick to the random list.

Here we go:

  1. The Boy and I both had a pajama day on Monday.  The weekend with the marriage course was so busy and exhausting that when I was still lying in bed at 8:17am on Monday morning I realized I just couldn’t do it.  I was exhausted and my tummy hurt. I haven’t had a pajama day in a long time and it was awesome.  And it checked another thing off my 101 list!
  2. I love Apple.  I’m a Mac all the way.  Yesterday my love of Apple was confirmed once again.  We went in to look at phone covers – but nothing grabbed our attention.  I was also looking for an external hard drive.  This little MacBook is full to the top and it’s time to take off some of those 3500+ photos.  I was prepared to buy a terabyte hard drive and my friendly Apple guy said no need – he actually sold me a less expensive option that really is all I need right now.  I really like when sales people don’t oversell me stuff – it makes my heart sing. Thanks Apple guy!
  3. I’m back on track with my Naturopath.  And what does that mean? It means I’m feeling better. It means my skin is better. And it means I’m focusing again on what I’m eating.  I’m still eating too much sugar but I’m working on it.  One thing I have been doing well with is drinking more water. And I can happily say that I have checked another thing off the list – 8 glasses a day for a month! Well, sort of. I have a new app on my phone Water Tracker and it sends me a reminder 7 times a day to drink water.  There are days where I don’t quite get to 8 but I’m definitely between 6 and 9 glasses each day.  And that is way better than normal.  So while I think I’ll probably still not make a full 30 days always getting 8 glasses (it’s really hard on weekends) I’m counting my continued effort.  And telling you if drinking more water is one of your goals – try Water Tracker.  It’s awesome.  Check!
  4. I finished my Christmas knitting last month and forgot to blog about it.  I finished the Boy’s Christmas socks and the Sista’s too small sweater turned into her Christmas cowl.  Instead of tearing out the sweater and reknitting something I’ve already done – I knit her something new! But I may have forgotten to take pictures of the prettyness.  But I will send you to see the original Buttons Cowl at Tanis Fibre Arts – I heart Tanis.  I heart her yarn and I think it shows great restraint on my part that I don’t have a huge stash hiding somewhere in the apartment…. or do I?
  5. The Boy and I are doing more registry fun tonight. We’re scanning away tonight and while I have some reservations feeling kind of gluttonous and greedy another part of me is very excited about starting our marriage with things that we’ve chosen instead of only a house full of other people’s leftovers.
  6. Here’s the china we’ve registered for
  7. And here’s our everyday stuff
  8. I’ve always made fun of brides at wedding showers who get so excited over plates.  I can now honestly say I get it.  I love these plates.
  9. My brother just sent me about 1000 YouTube videos so you get a YouTube Friday afterall!

Weekend Update

Monday… I loathe you.

Weekend, you are awesome! So, to give you an update – Friday I had my last birthday in my house.  It was not sad, although if you were a fly on the wall watching my mom you might beg to differ.  There were presants and a DELICIOUS meal, champagne, but no puppy.  Alas Earwax.

I was in a state of excited shock for a while when I saw my brother carry in something that I didn’t think I was supposed to see… a puppy crate.  Turns out he was cleaning out his house and figured that the next person to get a puppy would be my MOM, so he brought it home.  Brutal.  I told my mom this and she said “it really never even occurred to me to get you a puppy for your birthday.” Apparently I need to drop bigger hints next year.

The boy’s birthday is in a month – maybe he’ll get a puppy for his birthday – or maybe not.

More important than my birthday (few things are in this category) was the second part of our champagne toast on Friday.  Last week my mom celebrated a significant anniversary… 10 years cancer free!  WOOHOO MOM!  Mom was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2000, and she had her surgery May 5th 2000 – anacdotally  the date of my prom, I have lovely prom pictures in the hospital.  For those who are not so familiar with the cancer world – Ovarian is a really really  crappy kind to get, since there are essentially no symptoms and the screening for it is really poor generally women are not diagnosed until they are in a stage 4 (of 4).  Mom was super lucky and caught hers really early, and was only at a stage 1.  Regardless, 10 years free and clear is a GOOD thing – and I’m looking forward to spending many Happy Mother’s Days, and Birthdays with her for MANY years to come.  Hurray for Mom!

Back to me.  The boy did very well with the birthday surprises, no flowers, no golf hat, but a leather jacket and a surprise at my Saturday night birthday party – friends of ours came in from London (Ontario) to spend the evening with me.  Merriment was had by all.

Highlights of the weekend – bra shopping with Mom and Sister at Melmira – a lovely store in Toronto – professional fitters and TONS of selection for ALL sizes.  Playing Loaded Questions at my party, a hilarious board game that involves inappropriate anwers, wonderfully inappropriate that is.

My mom ditched me for Mother’s Day, so we celebrated her awesomeness on Saturday and Sunday we took a road trip to Cambridge for an early-bird special with the Boy’s Mom, Dad and Grandma.  Best line of the evening – Grandma after we gave her a hanging basket of Begonias, “Thank you, I love them – but DON’T DO THIS AGAIN NEXT YEAR.  It’s just not necessary.”  Oh Grandma – you’re funny.

Choose your own Adventure

Remember the Choose Your Own Adventure books?  I was never very good at them, I would always read both options and then choose which one I liked better. Then if at some point I didn’t like how things were going, I’d try to work backwards to when I did like how things were going and start again.  I like to know all my options, and I like to work backwards and forwards through a problem – this really hasn’t changed.

But yesterday after I was sent to a video on You Tube from ahandmadestory, I found myself in a Choose Your Own Adventure situation… and it was bizarre.

I started with this Embrace Life video – it’s a public service video asking you wear your seat belt.

Then I was prompted to choose my next video – I ended up one that promised “Best Wedding Dance Ever”

I disagree that it is the “best ever” but it is funny at the end when he goes to hug her, and she turns and hugs her bridesmaid – so he awkwardly chooses someone else to hug.

Then I ended up with another choice to make… I was intrigued by Miley Cyrus Poll Dancing… but it turned out to be some teen boy’s home video comments on the alleged incident at the Teen Choice Awards… so I found the real video.

Then I sat back and thought how strange this all was. How did I start with a video on the importance of wearing your seat belt and end up with Miley Cyrus Poll Dancing? I no longer like this adventure.

So I gave it up and searched for Glee clips and learned that Quinn (aka Dianna Argon) and Rachael (aka Lea Michele) live together for real – T.V. enemies, real life besties? You Tube – you teach me weird things.
